Whitchurch 81 vs Droitwich 5
This was a thirteen try rout of a spirited but overwhelmed Droitwich side. Centre Abe Spragge got the ball rolling in the third minute with a fine try and carried on to complete his hatrick by the thirteenth minute. A penalty try was followed by tries from Henry Hockenhull and Jake Rees with Danny Nicholas converting three of his five kicks. The half time score stood at 38 - nil but worse was to come for the visitors when Andy Dodwell scored just two minutes into the second half.
The home side were now playing Barbarian rugby to the delight of the large crowd. A further six tries were scored by Whitchurch through another Rees try, two from Nathan Horton and singles from Tom Stone, Steve Bloore and Robbie Leighton. Conversions were spread around between Leighton. Dodwell and Stone. The score was now 81 - nil but the visitors showed their fighting spirit and as the final whistle was about to blow, scrambled over to score in the corner. The mood of joyous celebration was dampened by injuries to Tom Hale, Callum Southall and Elliot Horton. The final match of the league season is next week when the reds travel to Evesham. There will then be a short break before the cup competitions start and Whitchurch will be going into these with great optimism.
