Whitchurch 12 vs Malvern 19
The Regional 2 West Midlands League is proving to be hard on away teams. This Saturday every team in the league who travelled away failed to secure a win. Whitchurch RFC proved to be no exception losing to Malvern 12 -19 after a two-hour journey.
There is light at the end of the tunnel with the young players who are now taking up their first team position and making it their own. Whitchurch spent most of their time in the Malvern half throughout the match but although crossing the Whitewash a few times try’s were not given as they were held up.
Malvern crossed the line to score two try’s in the first half, and one in the second. They also converted two of the try’s.
Whitchurch Scored a try in the first and second half converting once. The first try from a lineout was a rolling maul from ten metres out with Jake Rees scoring the try.
Young Isaac Wilding my man of the match struck from forty metres off a lineout. He ran through four tackles before smashing over the line.
Training is paying off as there was a huge improvement in the set piece with Whitchurch dominating the lineout and winning most of their scrums.
So why did Whitchurch go down this week? Was it the travel, No, the ref, defiantly not! Again, it was discipline that let them down from the more experienced players who lost their cool when they became frustrated. In the first half Whitchurch had a yellow card and in the second half they received two red cards.
The thirteen players left on the pitch played for around 22 minutes by themselves and the younger less experienced players with a couple of old heads gave a great account of themselves, playing with pride and passion. Much of this play being in the Malvern half.
Another opportunity was missed but there were glimpses of what is coming through for the future!
