Whitchurch 33 vs Warley 17

It’s been a tough season for the 2nd team this year but on Saturday they recorded their first win of the season beating Warley 33 : 17. It also marked the special occasion of Father and Son, Dave and James Marvel playing together for the first time. James is normally a first team player but is coming back from injury and it’s been an ambition for a while for them both to play together.  

Guided by past captain Daz Blasckhurst in the absence of Matt Grindley Whitchurch opened the scoring early on with 2 tries from centre James Marvel that were both converted by himself. Warley then hit back with an unconverted try to go in at half time 14:5. 

Whitchurch scored again with Jimmy Leadham, quickly followed by another and a hat trick for James Marvel. Warley never gave up and fought back to 25:17 before Lee Blackhurst scored to make it 33 :17. 

Josh Scover had a massive impact on the game tackling all over the park to get the man of the match award.  The second team are away at Willenhall next Saturday
