Vale of Lune 63 vs Whitchurch 5

This was probably the toughest day of the Whitchurch team so far this season. With a handful of regular players out and the long 100 mile trip up the M6 the Reds found the Vale men hard to take on. They had the perfect start with their backs running in a try in the first minute which was converted to give them an early 7:0 lead. Whitchurch fought back and within 5 minutes managed to cross the whitewash with a driving forwards move for Jake Bailey to score near the touchline. The conversion was missed to leave score at 7:5

This setback to the home team who had only won once this season inspired them to outplay Whitchurch in every department, taking dominance in the forwards at scrums and had some very useful backs that ran in some good tries before the break to go in 28:5. Whitchurch were hampered by injuries to Jake bailey and Brook Hill who both had to go off injured.

The second half started the same as the first with Whitchurch making a mistake at the kick off and giving the opposition backs the chance to run at them again which they did and despite some desperate tackling by the away defence managed to score under the posts again. This set the tone for the second half and the home team managed to run in a total of 9 tries leaving the final score of 63 : 5

Whitchurch are away again this week withy the much shorter trip to Winnington Park who are just below them in the league so hopefully with players returning will be a much closer contest. The second team are away at Wolverhampton.
