Ludlow 42 vs Whitchurch 7
The old adage that “forwards decide who wins a match; backs decide by how many” was proved untrue at Ludlow on Saturday. The south Shropshire side are flying high and pushing for promotion but they were pushed all over the park by the dominant Whitchurch pack but still came out on the wrong end of a six try drubbing. The home side looked dangerous every time they attacked and were ahead by 28 points to nil at the half time break.
The North Shropshire men came out for the second half in a determined fashion and scored early on from a try by Michael Oakden and conversion by Danny Nicholas. Ludlow were struggling to cope with the Whitchurch forwards but were still able to get the ball out to their quick and skilful backs who managed another two converted tries. Special mention must be made of the performance by young prop, Callum Southall, who outshone his much more experienced opponent. Man of the Match was given to Nathan Horton for his outstanding display of courage and desire. Next week, Whitchurch are at home after three away matches in a row, Their opponents are Wolverhampton who lie just one point ahead and a great crowd is expected.
