Eccleshall 1st 35 - 14 Whitchurch 2nd XV
Whitchurch 2’s put in a brave showing against Eccleshall who are top of the league. The first half was a tight affair with errors on both sides but Eccleshall established a 3 score lead with all tries being scored out wide. More tries might have been scored by Eccleshall but for some great defensive work by Sam Morley.
Whitchurch scored a well worked, converted try to get back into the game through Jack Rowley assisted by Josh Skover. A number of injuries meant the team had to be shuffled around during the half but it didnt affect us too much.
The second half started with some good territory for Whitchurch but it unfortunately didn’t bring any points despite a massive effort. A number of penalties conceded by Whitchurch brought pressure and Eccleshall made the most of advantages being played to establish a 20 point lead.
Whitchurch continued to fight back and the forwards kept the ball for a number of phases before Elliot Horton barged over the line to reduce the deficit.
This was our best performance of the season and we hope to carry that on against Rugeley at home on Saturday.
